Management Team

Fred Cameron, President (pictured right)
Fred started working in the sod fields for his dad, company founder A.J. Cameron, when he was 9 years old. In those days the business was mostly about sod production and Cameron’s supplied sod all across New England. Back then, the entire process of cutting and rolling sod was done by hand. Fred grew up in the company, and only left Farmington to serve his country as a United States Marine in Vietnam.
Fred and his brothers, Don and Bill, helped the company grow tremendously during the 1970’s and 1980’s. When the company began landscape installations, Fred assumed the role of estimating, coordinating and managing landscape installations throughout the region and landscaped some of the largest projects in New England.
Today, Fred is still the leader of the our team, leaving the road to assume day-to-day management of the company. He can be found in the back office working the phones, or driving out to jobsites to meet with his sons, Scott and Steven, and general contractors. With his vast hands-on knowledge of the industry, Fred is the go-to person for advice and guidance and freely shares his knowledge with anyone that asks.
Scott Cameron (pictured center)
Scott is Fred’s oldest son. He has been working with us since he started landscaping at the age of 12. Scott earned his Associate of Applied Science in Landscape Horticulture from the Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1999.
Scott is project foreman primarily for large-scale commercial landscaping projects. As a loyal Patriots fan, he was proud to spend two summers as the foreman for the landscape construction project at Gillette Stadium before its grand opening in 2002.
Steven Cameron (pictured left)
Steven is Fred’s youngest child. He has been working full-time with us since graduating from Farmington High School in 2000. Steven has worked on many landscaping, seeding and sod projects, and now manages landscape and large-scale sod installations.
Steven and Scott also manage our sawmill and stake mill operations during the winter months.
Barry Elliott
Barry plays a critical role in the management of our operations. He has broad and extensive experience in the construction trades, which has been a tremendous asset for the variety of responsibilities he has at Cameron’s. As General Manager, Barry’s role includes estimating, sales, human resources, advertising, accounts receivable, purchasing, and special project management.
Darin Guyer
Darin graduated from Dover High School and served five years in the United States Navy. After his military service, Darin worked with us seasonally on the landscape crew while earning his Associate of Applied Science in Landscape Horticulture from the Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire.
Darin’s first-hand familiarity with nearly every aspect of the landscaping and garden center operations at Cameron’s, and his commitment to education, ensures that the company is always knowledgeable of the ever-changing aspects of materials and design in the landscape industry. He is our head landscape estimator and project coordinator, and also assists with landscape materials purchasing.
Michelle Smith
Michelle has been Manager of our garden center and resident plant guru for 10 years. Gardening is Michelle’s passion; her eagerness and extensive knowledge of plants and their care are valuable resources in the design of a new garden or the renovation of an old garden. She joined us after a career in early childhood education. Now she uses her teaching skills to educate us about the art and care of plants, and offers popular classes at Cameron’s during the season. Michelle’s other responsibilities include ordering and maintaining inventory, and managing garden center personnel.
Skip Thompson
Skip has been with us since graduating from Farmington High School in 1983. He is our hydroseeding expert, logging thousands of miles each year seeding, mulching, and matting hundreds of acres of land for homeowners and contractors. Skip has worked on residential projects as well as large projects for local, state, and federal agencies throughout New England. He has a wealth of knowledge relating to the use and proper application of the products he installs, and is often called upon to test new products and methods for various manufacturers.
